Havana Nha Trang

Tòa nhà Havana Nha Trang

Havana Nha Trang (Tòa nhà Havana Nha Trang) is a 41-storey tower at 38 Trần Phú street, on the seafront of Nha Trang, Vietnam. It opened on 31 January 2013 as the Best Western Premier Havana Nha Trang, then the tallest hotel in the city, with 1,260 rooms of which 989 were guest rooms, a total floor area of 124,000 m² and an investment put at about 1,700 billion VND; construction had begun in 2006 and the investor was Hải Vân Nam JSC of Ho Chi Minh City[1]. A July 2013 survey of the seafront gave its height as 146 m[3].

The building is known for a private tunnel under Trần Phú street to the beach, a helipad on the roof and an automated car park[2]. It stands in the present Nha Trang ward, formed by Resolution 1667/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025 from Lộc Thọ and four other wards of the old centre[4][6].

Location

The tower stands on the inland side of Trần Phú, the seafront road, at number 38, between the Costa at 32 to 34 and the Tropicana site at 40[3]. OpenStreetMap maps it as a hotel building on Trần Phú whose south-western corner lies at about 12.2432 N, 109.1957 E[5]. The hotel gives its address as 38 Trần Phú, Nha Trang ward, Khánh Hòa province[4].

Construction and opening

Construction began in 2006[1]. The first phase opened on 31 January 2013 under the Best Western Premier brand, managed by Best Western of the United States for the investor, Hải Vân Nam JSC of Ho Chi Minh City[1]. The provincial paper gave 41 storeys, 1,260 rooms of which 989 were guest rooms, a total floor area of 124,000 m² and a projected investment of about 1,700 billion VND, and listed a tunnel to the beach, a helipad, an international clinic, a pool, restaurants, a conference hall, a spa and a bar[1].

A survey published on 21 July 2013 of the high-rise blocks then lining Trần Phú listed the Best Western Premier Havana at 38 Trần Phú with 41 floors and a height of 146 m, opened on 31 January 2013, alongside the Sheraton (33 floors, 115.1 m), the Costa (29 floors, 122.55 m) and the planned Mường Thanh Quê Hương (42 floors, 166.1 m)[3].

In September 2026 the hotel's own site presented it as the Havana Nha Trang Hotel, a five-star hotel, made no mention of Best Western, and named Công ty Cổ phần Hải Vân Nam Nha Trang (Hải Vân Nam Nha Trang JSC) as the company behind it[4]. The 2013 opening report had named the investor as Hải Vân Nam JSC of Ho Chi Minh City and the manager as Best Western[1]; no fetched source dated the end of the Best Western brand.

The building

In September 2013 VnExpress described the hotel as occupying floors 11 to 41, with 1,200 rooms on 31 floors ranging from 40 to 350 m², a restaurant on the 41st floor, an underground bar for 350 people, an automated car park using German technology and the tunnel beneath Trần Phú to the beach[2]. The room count differs from the 1,260 rooms (989 guest rooms) of the opening report[1]; both are given here as printed.

The hotel's own site places restaurants on floors 2 to 4 and a spa of about 1,400 m² with 21 treatment rooms on the fifth floor, and repeats the private tunnel to the beach[4]. The rooftop with its helipad was the landmark feature at opening[1][2].

Seafront planning context

The July 2013 survey was written as a criticism: it counted the towers from 12 to 82 Trần Phú, noted that the authorities had promised strict spatial rules for the seafront, and observed that approvals had continued regardless[3]. At 146 m the Havana was the tallest completed building on the seafront in mid-2013, to be passed by the Mường Thanh tower at 60 Trần Phú, planned at 166.1 m[3], which went into operation in late 2014[9].

Administration

Item 49 of Resolution 1667/NQ-UBTVQH15, adopted by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on 16 June 2025, arranged the wards Vạn Thạnh, Lộc Thọ, Vĩnh Nguyên, Tân Tiến and Phước Hòa into the new Nha Trang ward, whose government operates from 1 July 2025[6]. The hotel now gives Nha Trang ward as its address[4]; the English Wikipedia list of tallest buildings places number 38 in Lộc Thọ[10], as 20 Trần Phú and 60 Trần Phú on the same stretch were[7][8].
